Balkan Beer Reviews
In Slavic and Balkan culture, drinking is not just part of the nightlife, but part of life. Currently, Serbia itself ranks 4th in Europe for its alcoholic consumption. Typically, that consumption is of fruit brandies or wine. But craft beer is also becoming a popular libation here.
As of of this year, 2024, there are over 40 craft breweries in Serbia alone. Often, they brew standard IPAs and lagers, but you can find creative sours and strange saisons not even the USA produces. Many of these brews are highly ranked on Ratebeer and Untapped. The number of breweries in other Balkan countries, like Croatia and Romania, is growing even quicker.
I enjoy drinking, dancing and singing with crowds at big beer festivals or in a traditional kafana. Occasionally, however, I sit down alone to analyze a good brew. I am not a Master Cicerone (and don’t want to be,) but I’ve been drinking craft beer for over 15 years.
These are Beer Reviews, both industrial and craft, for beer from the Balkan region.
