But it’s January? It’s too late to review a Christmas beer.
It’s still Christmas in Serbia. Christmas is observed twice: once on December 25th and again on January 7th. The second is the Orthodox Christian Christmas, which follows the old Julian Calendar. You have two opportunities to enjoy Serbian brewer’s Razbeerbriga Christmas Tree, their holiday ale.
Christmas Tree is a heavy winter warmer that clocks in at 8.4% ABV and 46 IBUs. There’s loads of smoked malts and hops which, although not obvious, are evident in the back. Cinnamon, sugar and candied fruit are clear on the nose. But what’s stands out most is the very Christmasy pine tree aroma.
For winter, the roasty maltiness fills the stomach. Cinnamon and dry chocolate are evident. The flavor will remind any Serb of a childhood sweet, Medeno Srce. Merry Christmas and Srecan Bozic!
